Introduction
If you are not familiar with the
game, then you should read this page to learn what the game is all about because
this page is the Help file for the game.
The game is played with a
deck of cards by 4 players. Each player gets 13 cards (respectively). The order
of the cards (from the highest to the lowest) as follow: A K Q J 10 9 8
7 6 5 4 3 2. When the cards are dealt, find out the best suit with the
highest cards. Based on this, each player has the chance to call for the number
of hands he/she can make. When a player makes a call, the rest can call for
either a higer number or pass. Once all players made their calls, the player
with the highest call has the chance to name the Tarneeb
suit and to play first. (think of the Tarneeb suit as a Joker
card).
When a card is played by a
player, the rest of the players must play their cards from the same suit -if
they have- and the player with the highest card gets a hand and playes another
card. If a player does not have a card from the same played suit, a Tarneeb card
maybe played and the hand goes to that player - only if no one else played a
higer Tarneeb card.
If a player says he can get 5
hands -for example, then he/she must try to get at least 5 hands, else points
will be subtracted from that player's score.
The scoring of Tarneeb version 2.0 for Windows95/98 goes as follow:
If a player calls for 5 hands and got them, 50 points are added to that player's
score and any extra hand will be added as a point. Example: a player called for
5 and got 7 hands, then the score will be:
(5 * 10) + 2= 52 points. If that player did not make the 5 hands, 50 points are
subtracted from the player's total score. Each hand the rest of the players get
is added to their total score as a point.
How
to play the game for Windows 95/98
Figure A
is the first window you get when you run the game. In the text field
marked "Your Name", enter your first name. You can change the
names of your opponents if you like.
Notice the "Smart opponents" box is checked, this means your
opponents will be very...very smart. In the art of playing Tarneeb, you
must remember each played card (if you can). When playing it on your PC,
the 3 opponents will remember each played card well so that they don't
make a mistake. If you are a beginner, uncheck the box and they will go
easy on you.
The game ends when a player gets 300 points or greater by default but
you can change this from the game points combo box.
When you are ready to play, click on PLAY to join the 3 players. |

Once you are there, click on "New
Game" from the Game menu. 13 cards will be drawn to each player.
Each player has the chance to start making the first call. When you
begin the game, you are the one
who has to make the first call.
Figure B shows the call sequence. In this
case, your opponents are waiting for you to make the call.
Look at your cards (at the bottom of figure B) and find out the best
suit you have and how many
hands you can get. Since you are the first to make the call, you can not
pass and you must start the
call with at least 5 hands.
In the case of the cards in figure B, maybe
the best suit is Hearts. Now, select your
call by clicking on
one of the hands buttons. Assuming you selected 5 hands, each of your
opponents has the chance to raise the call or pass. If one of your
opponent has better cards, then he/she has the chance to raise the call
to a number greater than the one you selected.
Continue to figure C.

In figure C,
no player wanted to raise the call; they all passed and you are the
player who must get at least 5 hands and your opponents will try to stop
you from making the 5 hands you requested..
Looking at the cards in figure B, the best suit is Hearts.
Click on the Hearts icon.

The information on the status bar (figure
D) shows whose turn to play, the player who made the call, the
Tarneeb suit and the current suit. If the current suit is Hearts, for
example, then the rest of players must play a card from the same suit if
they have. If a player does not have a card as the current suit, any
card can be played.

The
scoring system of Tarneeb version 2.0
Put the following rules in your mind while
playing:
- If a player made a call (request) of 5 hands
-for example, then he/she must get at least 5 hands, if
that player failed to get the 5 hands, 50
points will be subtracted from that player's score.
- If that player made more than 5 hands, say 7
hands, then the score is calculated as:
(5 * 10) + 2 = 52 points..
- Each of the players (who didn't make the call), the number of
hands they get will be added to their scores and calculated as a point
for each hand.
